Safety of care-recipient and caregiver is one of the most important aspects, if not the most important, of providing quality homecare services. Here at Redan Medical, safety comes first; no reservation. Our caregivers are all fully trained on how to maximize safety for themselves and for the care-recipient that they are catering service to. Our efforts to preserve an uncompromised safety for everyone will be fruitful only if the care recipients and their family members also pay utmost attention to safety. Here are some tips on how to reach the maximum environment safety:

  • Knives, utensils, scissors, nails, needles, blades, and any other items with sharp edges or tips should be kept in secure places, completely out of accidental reach
  • Equipment and appliances with any potential hazardous incidents should be kept dysfunctional or under a safety operational lock (Some examples are: fans, stoves, garbage disposals, heavy duty vacuum cleaners or power wash, garage openers, among others)
  • Items of daily use to the care recipient should be stored at accessible places with no need to use stools, steps or ladders
  • Cleaning supplies, chemicals, flammable materials and any hazardous liquids should be stored in a safe area and out of accidental reach
  • Medications should be stored in a safe area and out of accidental reach
  • A grab bar should be mounted and installed near toilet, shower, all exit doors, steps, ramps, and anywhere that would pose any mobility risks
  • All exposed floor surfaces should be kept non-slippery, either by having carpet finish, or by using several rubber mats if the floor has tile finish or hardwood floor
  • All exposed corners, such as shelf corners, door corners, furniture corners, should be covered with rubber shock absorbers
  • Furniture and other items in the bedroom, kitchen and other living areas should be arranged in such a way that they wouldn’t expose any blockage in the way or any tripping hazards. Examples of this would be a corner of a rug that is folded up or legs of a table that are extended out
  • No matter how healthy an elderly person might look from the outside, (s)he is very delicate on the inside. A very subtle impact that does nothing to a young individual might be very disruptive to an elderly
  • If a senior needs to take a long rest, (s)he has to always get assisted to move around a little bit and never left at the very same position for a long time
  • Night time is the time of the highest risk. It is dark everywhere, and everyone is in bed sleeping; all it takes for an incident to take place is the care recipient needing a glass of water and the corner of the rug is flipped over, as simple as that
  • First aid kit should always be maintained fully equipped and operational, and handy
  • Multiple working phone devices should always be handy to call 911 or Redan Medical at (949) 666-2233, in case of any emergency

“Here at Redan Medical, Safety comes before everything else.”
